After my journey in São Paulo ended, I embarked on a trip to Rio de Janeiro. The moment the plane landed in Rio, I felt the city’s energy and passion. I took a taxi directly from the airport to the youth hostel. The sun was already rising, so I decided to check in early at the hostel and then head to the beach to enjoy the sea breeze.

In the afternoon, I arranged to meet some fellow travelers from my travel group to sunbathe on the beach. It would have been a bit boring to go to the beach alone. In the distance, waves crashed against the rocks, and the tide ebbed and flowed, accompanied by the melodious sound of the waves. I stood on the beach, feeling the charm of nature.

As night fell, my new friends and I decided to experience Rio’s nightlife. We went to a lively bar where the music was loud, the lights were flashing, and the whole place was filled with a passionate atmosphere. I met Matheus there; he had traveled to many more places than I had. We shared our travel experiences with each other. It’s fascinating to share similar or different feelings when different people visit the same places.

The next day, I met a friend from Brazil named Ueslei. During our shared meal, we exchanged our life experiences in different countries and discussed cultural differences and similarities. Ueslei had studied in China, and he shared various interesting stories and insights from his time abroad, which sparked a greater desire in me to explore the world.

In the afternoon, I went alone to hike up to the top of Urca Mountain to watch the sunset. While waiting at the base of the mountain, I started to feel anxious because I had a student discount and needed to purchase cable car tickets on-site. During that time, everyone seemed to be rushing to buy tickets for the cable car ride up the mountain. Fortunately, I managed to make it just in time and didn’t miss the sunset.

On the third day, my friend Jaret, whom I had met in Montevideo, messaged me saying he had also arrived in Rio de Janeiro. So, we decided to hike together to see the Christ the Redeemer statue on Corcovado Mountain. At the entrance of the trail, we had to register basic information such as our names, nationalities, and contact numbers. We heard that many people had encountered robbers while hiking this trail to the mountaintop, so we were extremely cautious throughout the journey. At the slightest rustle, we were immediately on high alert. We even had a plan – if things didn’t seem right, we’d make a run for it. Ha ha.

In the afternoon I participated in a local Monday night activity with Guilherme and Fabricio, whom I had met earlier in Bogotá and his friends. I was leaving Brazil the next day, and Fabricio and his friends had to get up early for work, but they still put everything aside to enjoy this wonderful night with me. We danced and laughed at the rhythm of the music, creating unforgettable memories.

On the fourth day, I visited the regiao portuaria in Rio, where there are many historical relics and art exhibitions. The detailed description of the 1989 Tiananmen Square incident in the exhibition hall left a deep impression on me, and the vicissitudes of history moved me deeply. After exploring the exhibition with my friend Gabriel, we went to Parque Lage. However, since we didn’t make a reservation in advance, we had difficulty getting in. To explore the interior of the estate, we had to eagerly head to the restaurant inside and enjoy a meal, which became our “pass” to enter the estate.

After today’s exploration, I returned to the youth hostel to pack my bags and prepare to head to the airport. Reflecting on the wonderful times in Brazil, I felt grateful and reluctant to leave. I said goodbye to this passionate land and embraced a new journey to San Francisco, USA. As I left, I cherished the beautiful memories of Brazil and looked forward to future reunions.
