In the early morning, I boarded the red-eye flight, crossing the night sky towards the capital of Peru, Lima. On the plane, I encountered two football fans from Colombia, both named Andres. They were headed to Argentina to watch a game. Meanwhile, I was fortunate enough to occupy the last row with three seats all to myself, allowing me to stretch out and rest. Andres, sitting in front of me, kept laughing at me. However, the comfortable sleep left me feeling content, so I paid no mind to his amusement. When we disembarked, I took a photo with the two Andres.

Lima was just a layover for me; my main destination was Cusco. So, without lingering, I hurried on. Early in the morning, I arrived in Cusco on another flight. Just as dawn broke, I witnessed the breathtaking sunrise that stirred my soul. Stepping onto the land, I immediately took a taxi to the hostel. Although Cusco airport was small and bustling, I had to wait for half an hour before a driver finally arrived. Upon reaching the hostel, I didn’t rest but eagerly went out to enjoy breakfast. At a small breakfast spot, I met Jose from Spain, whose assistance helped me choose a delicious breakfast.

With a lack of detailed itinerary, Jose and I decided to visit the Centro Qosqo de Arte Nativo museum together. The museum, divided into two floors, showcased Cusco’s rich historical architecture and local craftsmanship. After listening to the guide, we proceeded to the museum’s third floor, where for an additional fee, we could enjoy a panoramic view of Cusco’s cityscape.

In the afternoon, we headed to a viewpoint on a hill in Cusco, preparing to witness the magnificent sunset.

As night fell, we signed up with a travel agency, preparing to explore the mysterious valleys.

On the third day, we visited the famous Rainbow Mountain, locally known as Vinicunca. The stunning scenery of this high-altitude area was truly awe-inspiring. However, since cars couldn’t reach Rainbow Mountain directly, we had to hike through the mountains. Despite feeling exhausted during the climb, I knew I couldn’t give up easily, as rash actions in such high-altitude areas could lead to altitude sickness. At the summit, I met Karima, a mixed Moroccan and French girl who was also a tourist in South America. The beauty of Rainbow Mountain attracted too many tourists, and it took us some effort to find a secluded spot to take photos.

The descent was relatively easier, and we encountered many adorable llamas on the way. By evening, we returned to Cusco.

Next, I began planning my trip to Machu Picchu. Typically, tourists visiting Machu Picchu would opt for guided tours, taking a bus to the hydroelectric plant and then a train to Aguas Calientes. However, I chose to go alone, taking a public bus and after a long journey, finally reaching Aguas Calientes. The entire process took a whole day, but I opted for an early morning ticket to enter Machu Picchu the next day, costing a total of $70.

At 7 a.m. the next morning, I set out from the hostel towards Machu Picchu. There are two ways from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu, one by bus and the other on foot. I chose to take the bus uphill and hike downhill.

After waiting for hours on the mountain, the clouds finally cleared, and I finally saw the full view of Machu Picchu.

At 1:30 p.m., I hurried down the mountain, racing to the railway tracks, and ultimately caught the returning bus, arriving back in Cusco.

On my last day in Cusco, I visited two museums, and as night fell, I boarded an overnight bus to La Paz.
