During my time in Thailand, I had made plans with a friend from Hong Kong to travel together on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway to Tibet to see the Potala Palace. However, due to the pandemic, our plans were canceled, and I had to set out alone. The train ticket cost over 600 yuan, which was a significant expense. I bought a hard sleeper ticket for an overnight train from Chengdu, and along the way, I met two girls going to Lanzhou. We had a great time chatting, and they shared their homemade matcha cake with me. I fell asleep unconsciously during our pleasant conversation.

The next morning, as the train was about to arrive in Lanzhou, I said goodbye to them. The journey continued, and I moved into an oxygen-equipped carriage. Time seemed to pass very slowly on the train; I took out my laptop to organize work files, read books, listen to music, and occasionally take photos of the beautiful scenery outside the window.

By the afternoon, out of boredom, I began to walk around the carriage and chat with other passengers. I found that almost everyone was on their way to Tibet for a self-guided tour. Everyone shared food and chatted casually, creating a relaxed and joyful atmosphere, with everyone seeming to drop their social masks and engage more sincerely. Finally, I arrived in Tibet, where the sky was incredibly blue, the air was fresh, and the ultraviolet rays were strong. I first took a bus to the first hostel, which was somewhat rundown and inconvenient for bathing, so after staying there for one night, I moved to another.

The atmosphere at the new hostel was lively, with the hall bustling every night as everyone gathered to drink and chat. It was here that my real journey through Tibet began. I moved from the first hostel to another with a livelier atmosphere, where each night was filled with the noise of people sharing their travel stories and experiences, giving me inspiration for trips to Ali, Shannan, and Shigatse.

From the hostel, I joined a small group consisting of seven people, including the driver. Three were from the northeast, one from Ganzi in Sichuan, and another woman from Chengdu, like myself. We decided to embark on this extraordinary journey. Thinking about finally visiting the holy land of Ali and Mount Everest filled me with excitement. Along the way, the landscape was spectacular; I crossed vast wilderness and continuous mountain ranges, witnessing the stunning scenes where clear lakes met the vast sky. Ali’s natural beauty and deep cultural and religious significance were truly awe-inspiring. At a local ancient temple, I met several warm-hearted Tibetan herdsmen who invited me to participate in a small sacrificial ceremony, making it one of the most memorable experiences of the trip.

After leaving Ali, I headed to Shannan, known for its rich historical sites and magnificent landscapes. I toured the Yarlung Tsangpo River Valley and visited the ancient Samye Monastery, feeling the tranquility and peace that this oldest monastery exuded. The simple life and warm villagers in the villages and fields of Shannan deepened my affection for this land.

Next, I traveled to Shigatse, famous for the majestic Tashilhunpo Monastery. The golden roofs of the monastery shone in the sunlight, and the grand architecture and exquisite murals made every corner full of stories. In Shigatse, I was fortunate to participate in a local festival, dancing with Tibetans and trying traditional barley wine.

Throughout the journey, whether it was the wilderness of Ali, the ancient temples of Shannan, or the festivals in Shigatse, each place added unforgettable chapters to my trip. Tibet was not just a physical journey but a spiritual cleansing. Returning to the bustling hostel, I came back full of precious memories and stories, ready to share with every new friend I met.
