Every day in Xiamen brought me closer to the unique charm and warmth of this city. My experience at a hostel in Zeng Cuo An was particularly memorable, as it felt more like a big family than just a place to stay. The communal dinner with the hostel owner and volunteers made me feel the genuine interaction and selfless sharing among people. With the taste of food mixed with laughter and stories, I felt no longer just a visitor but a fully accepted member of this small community.

As I walked these familiar streets, it felt as though I was strolling through a corner of Taiwan, imbuing my exploration with warmth and nostalgia. The charm of Xiamen lies not only in its scenic coastline but also in the blend of tradition and modernity that characterizes its streets. The narrow alleys of Gulangyu are compact and enchanting, with cobblestone paths, red brick walls, and European-style window grilles, all reminiscent of Jiufen or the ancient houses in Kinmen in Taiwan. Every step is a visual delight, and looking up might reveal an old house telling stories of a century. I paused at a café tucked in a small alley, where the barista’s freshly roasted coffee beans filled the air with aroma. Sitting inside, watching the bustling street through the window and listening to the sound of piano music from around the corner, everything seemed so peaceful and enduring.

Zhangzhou left a profound dual impression on me: one side bearing the weight of its rich history, and the other, the lightness and simplicity of everyday life. During my visit to Baijiao Village, each story told by the villagers made me feel the historical weight of the land. These stories brought me a deeper understanding and reverence for this ancient terrain.
然而，漳州的现代生活也让人感觉非常轻松自在。我在当地市场的漫步，感受到市民们日常生活的节奏和氛围，这种轻松的生活态度与那些沉重的历史故事形成了鲜明的对比，让我对这座城市有了更加全面的感受。
However, modern life in Zhangzhou felt very relaxed and comfortable. Strolling through the local market, I could sense the rhythm and atmosphere of the residents’ daily lives. This laid-back attitude formed a stark contrast with the heavy historical tales, giving me a more comprehensive feel for the city.
东山岛：自然的力量与人的微小
Dongshan Island: The Power of Nature and the Minutiae of Humanity

During my days on Dongshan Island, I was constantly in close contact with nature. Seeing the trash we collected on the beach, I realized that even small individual actions can impact the environment significantly.

I also hiked alone on the island’s mountain trails. The untouched natural scenery purified my soul. With each turn in the path bringing new vistas and the air filled with the salty scent of the sea and the fragrance of the earth, this intense natural sensory experience made me feel both the insignificance of my presence and the grandeur of nature.
